Soya. Despite the USDA report at the end of last week reducing the South American crop by another 3.5 million tonnes, we have seen prices dropping slightly recently. Estimates for next years South American crop are predicted to be signifcantly higher, but this is obviously a long way off. The USDA reported US soybean plantings at 46% complete, up from 24% last week and well ahead of normal. Funds hae been selling off some of their long positions following on from general financial worries:- the announcement that JP Morgan has lost $2bn in less than half a year was a bearish figure for markets. This was combined with concerns over the Greek situation within the Eurozone.
Rapemeal. Prices for rape have also fallen over the last 10 days and we have seen prices drop by about £15/t. We are still a long way off from the lows of last December, but at least it's heading in the right direction.
Rapeplus. With soya prices being so high, we have a specialist product that protects the protein from rumen degradation which results in a product with an 80% increase in DUP content. Rapeplus will supplement the protein and DUP content of low protein feeds such as maize silage , low protein grass silage & cereals, therby maximising milk production. 1.2kg of Rapeplus can effectively replace 1kg soya.

Cereals. Prices have also dropped recently due to the rainfall in UK and on the Continent. Prices for new crop wheat and barley delivered are approx £148/t + £1 per tonne per month going fwd. There is still old crop available, but limited quantity of barley. Prices approx £180 for wheat and £175 for barley. If weather continues to be favourable, it is unlikely that the new crop prices are likely to rise.
Distillers. There are now no imported maize or wheat distillers available until August. The Vivergo plant is due to open later in the summer, but we will have to wait and see how quickly they will get up & running and have material available to sell.
Crimped Maize & Crimped Wheat. We still have material available and can price for deliveries through to August, so please ring us for prices.
Molasses. With the ever increasing price of proteins, have you considered using a high protein molasses? We have 2 non -urea based protein molasses available. Promaize Extra with a 58 DM and 56% protein & 4.4% sugar within the dry matter, and Promaize sweet with a 64DM & 32% protein & 32% sugar within the DM.
Prices for the Promaize extra are as little as £121/t and Promaize sweet from £140. It is certainly worth considering this as an option to extend your expensive dry proteins especially if you have a molasses tank on farm. Do not worry if you dont have a tank, as we can offer tanks on interest free credit over 1 - 3 years through our molasses supplier.
Other protein molasses are available , so please ring your trader for prices on either of the above or other molasses options. We are able to book your summer contract tonnage through to September.
We also have a product called SedaGold Syrup. It is a highly palatable syrup which has a high dry matter in excess of 25%, will be rich in protein at 24% in the dry matter and an energy level of 13.50 ME. SedaGold Syrup is ideally suited to beef finishers currently feeding co-products or high dry matter feeds. SedaGold syrup will help to increase palatability and intakes which is important with low dry matter mixes. On the higher dry matter feeds SedaGold syrup will help with intakes as well as supplying additional protein. It is avalable throughout the country in artic loads only. Please ring Linda Sutton on 01509 501843 for prices deliverd to your farm for this product.
